Adobe Lightroom Mobile for iOS now supports Direct Import! Direct import means that we can copy images from a digital camera’s memory card right into Adobe Lightroom for Mobile on iOS devices without messing around with the Apple Photos App or your iOS device’s Camera Roll anymore.
Adobe slipped the Direct Import feature into one of their Adobe Lightroom Mobile for iOS App updates at the end of December in 2019. Direct Import might not sound like a big deal but this mobile workflow improvement is something that photographers like me have been requesting for years.
Please note that your iPhone, or iPad, must be running iOS version 13.2 or higher to use this new feature. In addition, you will need an iPad to SD Card Reader adapter, or an iPad to USB adapter, to connect your digital camera’s memory card with your phone since there are no ports for external media built into any of these Apple devices.
With Direct Import, you no longer have to copy photos from you camera’s memory card over to your iOS devices Camera Roll before they can be imported into the Lightroom Mobile for iOS App. This small change can save a lot of space on your iOS device and it simplifies our mobile photo ingestion workflow.
